Fast fact: President Ronald Reagan used Carnivora following his colon surgery in 1985.

"Additionally, Carnivora is being studied for its effect on infections caused by RNA viruses including influenza, hepatitis C, herpes and HIV." (1)

1. Carnivora is a "registered trade name" for an extract of the venus flytrap, a plant native to North Carolina that, true to its name,  traps and eats insects, including flies.

2. Venus flytraps are endangered, so all plants used for the Carnivora herbal are cultivated - grown on farms under strictly controlled conditions - to protect and support the wild species, the company that produces the extract goes to great lengths to make clear.

3. Helmut Keller, a German MD, developed Carnivora after seeing one of the plants eat an insect. Fascinated, he acted on a "hunch" that the plant might contain chemicals that would benefit humans by "eating" harmful bacteria and cancer cells.

To a layman, that might sound like quite a leap - but Keller, now retired, spent the next 30-years of his life researching the plant and its active ingredients and also using Carnivora in his practice to treat patients, many of whom had cancer.

4. The use of Carnivora - like many complementary health techniques and herbals -  is considered controversial by some in the medical community, especially in the United States.

5. On the flip side of the "controversy coin", the use of Carnivora -is NOT considered controversial. It is considered to be an excellent supplement if not a Godsend by some doctors and researchers, including many in the United States.

6. Doctors who believe in Carnivora recommend intravenous use as well as Carnivora taken by mouth. Injections require licensing and in some locations, it isn't legal - requiring patients who want Carnivora as a part of their wellness plan to travel to get it.

12. Chemical analyses have shown that so-called naphthoquinones, plumbagin, 3-chloroplumbagin and droserone, as well as hydroplumbagin glucoside are among the main constituents of Carnivora.

13. It takes 12 ounces of a whole, fresh venus flytrap plant to yield 2.3 mg. of droserone, 286 mg. of plumbagin, 3.6 mg. of 3 - chloroplumbagin and 116 mg. of hydroplumbagin glucoside.

14. Other components include quercetin; the amino acids arginine, asparagines, threonine, glutamic acid, cysteine, serine; the "bile salts" cholic acid and chenodesoxycholic acid; formic acid.

15. Interestingly, no active proteases responsible for the digestion of the insects have been isolated from either the fresh plant or lyophilized juice.

16. Venus flytrap produces what Keller calls "an array of constituents that support the body's natural immune system and which have also been shown to be effective therapeutic agents for immune deficient and autoimmune disorders." Autoimmune disorders include rhematoid arthritis, lupus, multiple sclerosis, HIV-AIDS and others.

17 . Here's a closer and more specific look at the constituents of Carnivora:

a. Droserone; 1, 4-Naphthoquinone derivate; Spasmolytic, cough-blocking, antibiotic properties.

b. Hydroplumbagin: Hydroplumbagin-4-O-B-glucopyranoside; Immune modulation, stimulation.

c. Formic acid: Mono carbon acid; Antiseptic properties.

d. Quercetin: Quercetin-3-O-galactoside, -3-O-glucoside, -3-O-rutinoside; Via a specific pathway in the human body, these components contribute to the regulation of immune modulation and stimulation, support the circulatory system and maximize the efficiency of heart function.

e. Myricetin: Myricetin-OH; Same properties and actions as Quercetin.

f. Gallic acid derivates: Cholic acid, deoxycholic acid and chenodeoxycholic acid; Aid in emulsification of fat by supporting the efficacy of lipases, immune-stimulative action aids chronic conditions.

g. Amino acids as follows (boldface letters): Arginine: (S)-2-amino-5-guanidinopentane acid; Essential in childhood, plays an important role in the uric acid cycle, liver-protective, turns into the homologue of lysine which is essential to mitochondrial function and to the production of creatine and putrescine, the pre-stage of spermine and spermidine which stabilize the DNA structure in human spermatozoa.

Asparagine: Aminosuccinamic acid; Amino donator, proteinogen amino acid.

Threonine: (2S,3R)-2-amino-3-hydroxybutane acid; Essential human nutrient; metabolizes to ketobutyrate and glycine; regulates cholesterol; protein element.

Glutamine: (S)-2-amino-glutaric acid; Donator of amino groups; detoxifying end product of ammonia metabolism; source of gamma amino-butyrate (neurotransmitter); acceptor molecule of ammonia detoxification.

Alanine: (S)-2-amino acid; Key function as most important glucogenic amino acid, it is essential to catalyze and block harmful enzymes

Cysteine: (R9)-2-amino-3-mercaptopropionic acid; Causes acid urine, source of sulfate; high concentration in the brain; essential for fetus and premature children.

Serine: (S9)-2-amino-3-hydroxypropionic acid; Glycoproteins; component of immune globulins (antibodies).

Histidine: (S)-2-amino-3-imidazol-4-yl-propan acid; Metabolizes to histamine.

In addition to amino acids, Carnivora contains:

a. Proteases: enzymes that split proteins and peptides, protein kinases that block protein synthesis.

Lipopolysaccharides. These originate from biosynthesis of polysaccharides which are bound to lipids; Retinol has similar characteristics.

Phytohormones: The source of progesterones and estrogens are tiny immeasurable amounts of steroids in the genuine pressed juice of Dionaea muscipula.

18. Pharmacologically, the Carnivora constituents plumbagin and hydroplumbagin have been shown to be immunomodulatory versus simply "immune enhancing."

19. In studies performed at the KTB Tumor Research Institute at the Institute of Molecular Medicine and Tumor Biology, Freiberg, Germany, Carnivora was shown to selectively attack poorly differentiated cells by inhibiting their mitochondrial ATP synthesis and by interfering with protein kinase production resulting in apoptosis.

20. Carnivora also supports macrophage production and activity and stimulates phagocytosis.

21. In immune monitoring studies conducted by ZYTOGNOST GmbH in Munich, Germany, researchers reported that "the effects of venus flytrap juice could be characterized as immunomodulatory as demonstrated mainly by a decrease of suppressor cells and simultaneous increase in helper cells."

22. Persons treated with Carnivora also show significant increases in natural killer cells as demonstrated in clinical studies performed since the 1970's.

23. This suggests that Carnivora does not just simply "enhance" the immune system, but is multi-dimensional in its ability to modulate the entire system by increasing the efficiency of the helper:suppressor ratio thereby maintaining a more effective immune response.

24. Professor D.K. Todorov, M.D., Ph.D, D.Sc., and Chief of Oncopharmacology at the National Oncological Center studied and researched Carnivora for over two decades. The Bulgarian-trained expert found that in certain cases cancer cells were destroyed within hours when exposed to Carnivora.

Here are some specific cancers and findings:

Sarcoma

One of Todorov's early studies showed a steep drop of human sarcoma cells from 2,500 to 880 - that's 66 percent improvement over a 72-hour period. Todorov also found that Carnivora caused a drop of 2,200 multi-drug resistant sarcoma cells to 1,130 cells in 72 hours - three days.

Brain cancer

Todorov administered Carnivora to 109 human glioblastoma cells and achieved the destruction of 50% of these cells during a seven-day period.

Leukemia
Todorov used Carnivora to destroy human T-lymphoblastic leukemia cells; 3,100 cells were reduced to 1,820 in 72 hours. He also exposed drug resistant human leukemia cells Carnivora - with 72 hours, 1,680 leukemic white blood cells were reduced to 570 cells. Todoraov said in a published report: "I have treated patients who suffer from chronic myeloid leukemia, as well as chronic lymphocytic leukemia with long-term Carnivora therapy with great success. The key in this instance is prolonged treatment. I will tell you that a majority of my CML patients and all of my CLL patients are still alive." (Note: quotation circa 1991.)

Ovarian cancer ­ Animal and In Vitro Studies

Fifteen hundred ovarian cancer cells were dramatically reduced to 435 cells in a rat model in vivo when treated with 200 ng/ml of Carnivora within forty-eight hours. Seventeen hundred eleven cells of human ovarian cancer were again dramatically reduced to a mere 359 cells upon exposure to 200 ng/ml of Carnivora in just 48 hours. It was shown that despite this cancer's chemotherapeutic resistance, Carnivora had nearly destroyed this entire cell line.



25. Toxicity and mutagenicity studies reveal Carnivora to have an LD50 of 1550mg/kg in male Sprague-Dawley rats. LD50 denotes the dose at which half of all subjects who take it die. For a 140-pound human, this would translate to the daily administration of over more than a gallon of Carnivora to produce a significant toxic effect. Ames testing revealed no mutagenic effects at all doses studied.

26. Carnivora is administered in several ways: intravenously, via a nebulizer (airpborne droplets inhaled through the nose), capsules, sublingual drops, and injection. A typical treatment protocol for advanced disease would include daily IV infusions.

27. The actual dose will depend on factors that include condition of the patient and the illness being treated.

28. In the instance of earlier stages of disease, both types of injection and sublingual drops may be employed as a primary treatment.

29. It is interesting to note that former President Ronald Reagan used Carnivora drops following his colon surgery.

30. It is recommended that the patient take between six and nine 125 mcg capsules of Carnivora throughout the day in addition to the ingestion of Carnivora extract.

31. A variety of supportive nutrients and procedures (enzymes, herbs, glandulars, megavitamins, hormones, herb synergy tea, non-chemotherapeutic pharmaceuticals, hyperthermia, etc.) may be part of the protocol.

32. Finally, Carnivora can be used at lower doses in oral form as a dietary supplement to maintain a healthy immune system. One 125-mcg capsule taken 3 - 4 times daily is considered sufficient to facilitate immune modulatory and enhancing action assuming dietary and lifestyle factors have been addressed.

35. Evidence from around the world supports the use of Carnivora. Its mechanism of action appears to be as an immune system modulator that improves the efficiency of the immune system for both preventive use and in the battle against disease.

36. Areas under investigation include a decrease in the mitosis rate of cancer cells. Studies show that enzymes in Carnivora (protein kinases) block the production of tumor cell proteins and other primitive undifferentiated cell proteins. The result is that these primitive cells are starved for nutrients and die off. The final result is apoptosis.

37. The Institute of Pharmaceutical Biology of the University of Munich has stated that Carnivora stimulates the reticuloendothelial system, which results in activating and increasing the self-defense cells in the human body.

38. Further, Carnivora decreases the ATP content in cells by depleting the energy of malignant cells and foreign organisms, causing them to weaken.

39. Carnivora also appears to be a broad-spectrum anti-viral/antimicrobial agent against microorganisms, bacteria, viruses, pathogenic fungi, protozoa, trichomonas, chlamydia, spirochetes, borrelia and syphilis - as well as human pathogenic worms.

40. A nutritional therapist from Westport, Connecticut put her professional experience to use when she learned she had a fairly large, malignant breast tumor. The news was surprising to the 41-year-old. Two breast exams just weeks apart had given her a clean bill of health only a few months before. A tumor's sudden appearance meant it was growing fast.

"I was treated for four weeks with intravenous (IV) Carnivora®" in addition to other holistic cancer treatments, she said. Then she returned home and continued to take Carnivora®.

"This procedure has kept me in permanent breast cancer remission for over seven and a half years," she declares. She continues to monitor her health with sophisticated cancer tests, many of them little-known in North America. "All cancer markers have been turning up normal for me. My immune system is fine. I'm doing well."

What is Carnivora®?

Carnivora® is a patented extract of the Venus' flytrap plant. To be a bit more precise, it's the standardized, purified juice taken from that rare North American plant by an exclusive, patented process. The Venus' flytrap contains no less than seventeen compounds that affect various mechanisms of action in the human body.

The digestive juice of Venus' flytrap is a phytonutrient (i.e. a natural nutrient found in a plant) that attacks and destroys every type of malignant cell. It is especially effective on primitive cancer tumor tissues. For more than thirty years, Dr. Keller investigated this substance and gained clinical experience with some 15,000 cancer patients, often with startling success.

That's why the nutritional therapist had heard if him and felt no hesitation in entrusting herself to his care. Bu let me tell you how it all began.

One doctor's journey from Establishment to alternative medicine

Back in 1973, Dr. Keller had just wrapped up a one-year medical internship in a German hospital. He had barely started his professional career but he was already losing faith in the medical establishment's approach to cancer.

"I had become totally disappointed with the horribly poisonous side effects of chemotherapy and was disillusioned with the oncology specialty I was electing to make my life's work," he told me in an exclusive interview.

As he drove alone from Boston to Maine to join his family for a vacation, Dr. Keller was actually thinking of dropping out of oncology. By pure chance he stopped at a flower shop to purchase a gift for his wife.

"There I saw a number of the Venus' flytrap plants in a corner… and observed how they were catching and digesting bugs… I was fascinated with their feeding actions and remained in that flower shop watching for at least an hour."



Afterwards, meditating on what he'd seen, Dr. Keller had a hunch that whatever it was that enabled this plant to recognize and digest animal (insect) protein would also identify and digest primitive cells such as cancerous tumor cells or infectious germs.

"My instinct told me that here was a possible treatment for overcoming malignant growths in humans. For me, it became worthwhile to invest study, money, and time in such a research project. I became determined to do that. Little did I understand then that applying the therapeutics of juice from the Venus flytrap would become my life's work."

A plant with a super immune system

"In 1973… I discovered why the juice of the Venus' flytrap is such an effective dietary supplement for the immune system," Dr. Keller went on. "As you know, this plant is expert at trapping its own meals through a sensitive biological response process. When a fly or other small insect touches the delicate hairs of the plant's 'mouth,' it causes the mouth to close quickly, trapping the insect inside the plant.

The delicacy and complexity of this plant is one of nature's wonders. The plant's "mouth" closes only if the prey, walking across its leaf, touches two of the six trigger hairs or touches one hair twice. A single touch will not stimulate the mouth to close. Wind, raindrops or dust particles don't activate the reflex.

What's more, the mouth does not close tightly at first. Instead, its bristles fold loosely like the interlaced fingers of two clasped hands. This permits a small insect to escape between the bristles—because the flytrap prefers a bigger meal!

Although its unusual behavior has made it world famous, the Venus' flytrap is in fact a rare plant, native only to a tiny, swampy area in the vicinity of Wilmington, North Carolina. It's now grown commercially for its medical uses and as a curiosity for plant fanciers.

"Juicy liquids inside the plant's mouth are capable of digesting animal and vegetable materials," Dr. Keller relates. "Interestingly, they do not digest the plant itself. From this observation, I have concluded that the Venus' flytrap must possess an advanced type of immune system capable of distinguishing between harmful intruder organisms and its own materials."

In other words, Dr. Keller figured out that the Venus' flytrap could somehow tell the difference between itself and something that was not itself. And then it could devour the organism that was "not itself."

That's exactly what the human immune system does! He had a hunch that this ability—highly unusual in the plant world—could provide a plant food-based remedy—a phytonutrient—that could be priceless to humans suffering from cancer tumors and even microbial infections.

Experiments confirm hunch

During the year following his "eureka" encounter in the flower shop, Dr. Keller was employed as a lab technician at Boston University. There he performed his first experiments with Venus' flytrap. He quickly discovered that a juice extracted from the plant destroyed cancer calls in a test tube or Petri dish.

Then he found that the Venus' flytrap juice eliminated cancer in hamsters. By this point, Dr. Keller was getting really excited about the prospects for this natural therapy. He applied to test the plant extract on fully informed, volunteer human cancer patients who were willing to take a chance on an experimental treatment.

If you know anything about the FDA, you won't be surprised to learn they turned him down flat. Disappointed beyond words, Dr. Keller then returned to Germany with his wife and children. He established an experimental cancer treatment clinic in Bad Steben, a health spa famous for its hot underground springs (bad means "bath"). Since then Dr. Keller has closed his clinic.

Dr. Keller's clinic focused on alternative cancer treatments, especially those that work by destroying pathogenic cells directly and by affecting the immune system in multiple ways. His approach was the opposite of therapies that destroy the immune system as chemotherapy and radiation do. In this free and more supportive atmosphere he perfected the application of the Venus's flytrap extract, which was named Carnivora®—a reference to the plant's animal-eating habit.

After more than three decades of laboratory analysis, clinical testing, and the treatment of about 15,000 patients, Dr. Keller discovered a great deal about how Carnivora® works. He found it to be a powerful modulator of the immune system that fortifies the body's own defense agents and supports a stronger immune reaction.

One refinement he discovered is that the juice of the Venus' flytrap digests only the "primitive," undeveloped, undifferentiated cells of its prey. These "primitive" cells are the same kinds of cells that invade the human body as harmful bacteria or fungi or which the body produces in response to pollution or poor diet. What's more, these are exactly the cells the human body is programmed to attack.

What that means, according to Dr. Keller, is that the Venus' flytrap extract known as Carnivora® fortifies the human body's own defense mechanisms—the immune system.

He found this non-toxic agent works directly against a pathogen by blocking the synthesis of protein as well as by reducing the core energy level of ATP—a vital source of energy for the pathogen cell. And during the whole process not a single normal cell would come under attack.

It not only cures but also prevents

In a moment, I'm going to tell you more about how the plant extract is applied in a clinical setting. But meanwhile you may be excited to learn that Carnivora® extract can be an effective food supplement to strengthen your immune system even if you're perfectly healthy! Dr. Keller developed Carnivora Immune Modulator/Enhancer, a lower-dose capsule form of the extract for safe daily supplementation.

Daily supplementation will not only reduce your risk of tumors but also protect you against a gamut of infectious diseases such as fly, hepatitis and herpes.

"I assure you that Carnivora® can be safely ingested and at low concentrations will produce the immune system supportive response noted by researchers and immune system monitors," he told me. For prevention, Dr. Keller recommends one 125-microgram capsule three times daily. Where a life-threatening illness is already present, he recommends up to nice capsules daily—three in the morning, three in the afternoon and three in the evening, preferably taken without food.

What the cancer patient can expect

The nutritional therapist in the story I told at the beginning of this chapter received Carnivora® by means of injection outside of U.S. jurisdiction, since the FDA does not permit Carnivora® by injection or infusion.

In most countries including the U.S., Carnivora® is now utilized in the form of capsules and pure drops (no excipients, fillers or other toxic substances). In countries outside the U.S. that permit it, Carnivora® may be administered intravenously (IV) or by inhalation via a nebulizer. Since Carnivora® is more effective when a consistent level is maintained in the bloodstream, health practitioners use various protocols to meet this requirement.

One such protocol is an IV infusion daily over a three to four hour time period. You should also know that Dr. Keller used Carnivora® as one of a battery of alternative, nontoxic, anti-pathogenic treatments. The nutritional therapist's breast cancer was treated with whole body hyperthermia, interferon injections, and hydrazine sulfate in addition to Carnivora®.

Based on his prolonged experience, Dr. Keller considers many cancers reversible and curable, including leukemia. After about three to six months of initial treatment, tumors usually stop growing and become smaller. Patients who then enter into the maintenance phase of the program will usually require reduced doses of liquid drops and/or capsules taken orally on an empty stomach for up to two years to prevent recurrence.

It's a simple fact that the Venus' flytrap captures and digests flies, worms, mosquitoes, roaches and other bugs with all their impurities. What I've written here comes with the warning that the carnivorous plant's pressed juice must be purified to the highest degree.

I also want to add that the Venus' flytrap is an endangered species and that Carnivora® is manufactured in full compliance with regulatory measures designed to protect the plant.

So having told you all the wonderful things about Carnivora®, I want to add that you should avoid imitations and patronize only the trade-name-registered Carnivora® product developed by Dr. Keller himself—manufactured and distributed solely by Carnivora Research International.
